Prof. Thomas Stulnig

Prof. Stulnig has completed his medical doctorate in 1990 at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. He received postgraduate qualifications in internal medicine in 1999, in endocrinology and metabolic diseases in 2003 and geriatric medicine in 2011. He also holds diplomas in nutritional medicine and palliative medicine. In 2000 he attained a “Clinical Investigator” diploma from the Austrian Medical Association, and since then has been a Principal Investigator on a number of clinical trials.
His current research interests include obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus as well as lipid disorders. More than ten years ago he started his engagement for adult patients with inborn diseases of metabolism with emphasis on lysosomal storage disorders. Prof. Stulnig is a member of several professional organisations, currently serving as a board member of the Central European Diabetes Association (past president). He is also on the editorial board of Gerontology, and the German language journal Die Diabetologie.
Since November 2019 Prof. Stulnig is heading the Department of Medicine III with Metabolic Diseases and Nephrology at Clinic Hietzing, a large community and academic teaching hospital in Vienna, Austria.
